The Adra Industrial City Administration in rural Damascus has carried out a package of service and preventive works in preparation for the winter season. These works included clearing stormwater drainage channels and opening new channels for rainwater discharge, in addition to maintaining sewage networks, with the aim of limiting the risks of water and flood accumulation and protecting industrial facilities.
The General Manager of the Industrial City, Engineer Samer Al-Smaeil, clarified that the works included clearing inspection chambers belonging to sewage lines, treating main lines in various sectors, and maintaining subsidiary lines. He noted that the accumulation of sediments and waste in inspection chambers, which have not been cleared for years, has led to problems in absorbing and draining rainwater.
Periodic Clearing and Channel Treatment
Al-Smaeil confirmed that the clearing of inspection chambers is carried out periodically throughout the year, due to the accumulation of waste resulting from industrial activities and what it may cause in obstructing water flow in sewage networks. Regarding flood prevention measures, he pointed out the clearing of the flood drainage channel in Sector Five, which constitutes the first line of defense to protect the industrial city, and the beginning of clearing the channel in Sector One, parallel to the Al-Dumair City highway.
He added that the administration opened a backup channel in the north of Sector Five to assist the main channel in absorbing excess water in case of floods resulting from heavy rains. He also noted the preparation of a pumping and lifting station in Sector Four, scheduled to begin operations next week.
Infrastructure Rehabilitation
For his part, the General Manager of the Industrial City clarified that the administration is also working on rehabilitating infrastructure in Sector Seven, with the aim of improving services provided to facilities there amid the accelerating pace of urban development. These works fall within the plan of preventive measures aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the rainwater drainage system and raising the readiness of the industrial city to face weather conditions during the winter season, thereby contributing to protecting facilities, limiting potential damage, and maintaining the continuity of industrial activity.
