The Ministry of Agriculture approved compensation for farmers affected by natural disasters in several provinces.

Mohammed Seilin, Director of the Agricultural Production Support Directorate at the Ministry of Agriculture, confirmed that the Ministry has approved compensation for farmers affected by natural disasters, noting that the beneficiaries reached 8,289 farmers, with a total value reaching 210 million lira.

Seilin stated that the compensation was approved during an expanded meeting held at the Ministry building today, Tuesday, covering farmers in the provinces of Homs, Daraa, Hama, Tartous, Aleppo, and Raqqa, as well as the countryside of Deir Ezzor, where the area of damaged land reached approximately 195,000 dunums.

Details of Damages and Beneficiary Provinces

Seilin pointed out that the damages varied between frost, cold, and the flooding of the Euphrates River and land inundation in Hama, in addition to damages resulting from the flooding of the Siha Dam in Aleppo Governorate, noting that the compensation included areas and provinces receiving compensation for the first time this year, among them Quneitra, Daraa, Raqqa, and the countryside of Deir Ezzor.

He added that the disbursement of dues will begin after preparing name lists of affected farmers, according to provinces and the branches of the Agricultural Bank closest to their areas, and submitting them to the bank in preparation for disbursing compensation through its branches.

Situation in the Eastern Region

For his part, Ahmed Jalal Ahmed, the representative of the Ministry of Agriculture in the Eastern Region, indicated that the damaged areas in Raqqa Governorate due to the flooding of the Euphrates River reached approximately 8,000 dunums, with the number of affected farmers being 277, and the value of approved compensation reached approximately 13 million Syrian lira.

Ahmed added that the damages in Deir Ezzor, resulting from flooding and cold waves, affected approximately 11,000 dunums, causing damage to about 1,600 farmers, and compensation amounting to approximately 28 million lira was approved, noting that committees of the Natural Disaster Mitigation Fund conducted field surveys of the affected areas.

Recommendations to Mitigate Disasters

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Agriculture held a meeting of the board of directors of the Natural Disaster Mitigation Fund on Agricultural Production this morning, chaired by Minister of Agriculture Bassel Al-Sweidan and attended by representatives from the Ministries of Finance, Local Administration, Environment, and Energy.

The meeting also included a set of recommendations to mitigate natural disasters, including building a dam and a spillway in the Siha area in Aleppo Governorate, and organizing training programs for workers involved in damage assessment processes, which contributes to improving evaluation and response mechanisms for damages resulting from natural disasters.
