Fleet Growth Projections
Airbus, the aircraft manufacturer, has predicted that Istanbul, Turkey, will enhance its status as a hub in global air traffic and transport, affirming Turkey's strong growth potential in the air transport sector.
Antonio da Costa, Vice President of Market Analysis and Forecasts at the company, stated that Turkey's aircraft fleet is poised to more than double over the next 20 years, noting that the Turkish aviation market will require approximately 1,800 aircraft during this period.
Shift in Industrial Cooperation
For his part, Simon Ward, Head of Airbus Turkey, confirmed that the Turkish aviation and aerospace sectors have undergone significant transformation over the past two decades, noting that cooperation with Turkey was previously limited to specific contracts for producing small metal aircraft parts.
Ward pointed out that the Turkish industry is now carrying out large-scale production operations for Airbus, highlighting that the company's spending in Turkey has risen from $35 million annually, about 20 years ago, to $750 million currently, confirming that this figure continues to grow.
Istanbul International Project
Istanbul Airport (IST) is one of the largest strategic projects in the global aviation sector, designed to be the main link between the world's three continents: Asia, Africa, and Europe, leveraging Istanbul's geographical location.
Da Costa added that political and geographical developments affect the future of global aviation, but Istanbul's current performance provides important indicators for the next phase, affirming that Turkey has strong growth potential in the air transport sector.
