Airbus: Turkey to account for 20% of Europe's aircraft orders
Airbus forecasts Turkey will need 1,800 new planes by 2045, with passenger traffic growing at 4.5% annually.

Airbus, the world's largest aircraft manufacturer, has projected that Turkey will account for approximately 20% of the total demand for new passenger aircraft in Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States over the next 20 years. This forecast is driven by the rapid growth in air transport traffic and the expansion of airline fleets in the region.

Reuters quoted Antonio da Costa, Vice President of Market Analysis and Forecasting at Airbus, stating that the Turkish market will require approximately 1,800 new aircraft by 2045. This number aims to support expected growth and renew current fleets, amid expectations that the rate of air travel per capita in Turkey will rise to 3.1 trips annually over the next two decades.

In the same context, da Costa noted that this rate will exceed the regional average of 2.4 trips, indicating increasing demand for air travel. He added that passenger traffic in Turkey is expected to grow at a rate of 4.5% annually, compared to 2.9% in Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States. This will lead to more than doubling the size of Turkish airline fleets in the near future.

For his part, Antonio da Costa confirmed that Istanbul continues to solidify its position as a global air transport hub, benefiting from strong growth in the tourism sector and increasing intercontinental transit traffic. According to Airbus estimates, Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States will need 8,190 new passenger aircraft by 2045, including 3,600 to meet demand growth and 4,590 to replace older aircraft.

The Turkish aviation sector has witnessed significant growth in recent years thanks to the continuous expansion of Turkish Airlines and the development of airport infrastructure, most notably Istanbul Airport, which has become one of the world's largest air connectivity hubs. Turkey seeks to strengthen its position as a key hub between Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, supporting the increasing demand for new aircraft and air transport services.
