Al-Alemi calls for a firm international stance against Houthi practices
Yemeni Presidential Council chairman stresses the need for an international response to Houthi attacks on civilians and international navigation.

Yemeni Presidential Council Chairman Rashad Muhammad al-Alemi affirmed on Monday that the practices and repeated attacks by the Houthi militia necessitate an international stance commensurate with their severity, calling for intensified international efforts to confront the sources of threats facing the region.

The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement on the "X" platform that al-Alemi reviewed, during his meeting with British Minister of State for the Middle East Stephen Doughty, a series of attacks launched by the Houthi militia, pointing out the targeting of civilians and civilian facilities, threatening international navigation, and attacks on civilian assets in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Al-Alemi stressed the importance of mobilizing international support to designate the Houthi militia as a terrorist organization, and to disrupt its funding, arms, and smuggling networks, praising Saudi support for Yemen, particularly the response to humanitarian needs in Taiz and other governorates through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center and the Saudi Program for the Development and Reconstruction of Yemen.

For his part, Doughty affirmed his country's firm position alongside the Yemeni people and its political leadership, and its continued political, security, economic, and humanitarian support, as well as its support for the government's efforts to enhance security and stability, noting an increase in British support to address the repercussions of the humanitarian crisis. The two sides also discussed preparations underway to hold an international conference to support Yemen at the end of the current month.

Al-Alemi had previously called at the end of last month for the European Union to expedite the adoption of a decision classifying the Houthi militia, including its political and military wings, on the list of terrorist organizations, warning that continued delay in taking this step exacerbates security and humanitarian threats.
