Shafiq Al-Dali, Director of International Cooperation at the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing Authority, confirmed Syria's commitment to applying the standards and recommendations of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), which enhances the effectiveness of the anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing system and consolidates trust in the Syrian financial system.

Al-Dali clarified, in statements to Al-Ikhbariya Al-Suriya on Saturday, that Syria is working to implement the recommendations of the Financial Action Task Force, noting that the mutual evaluation of its system will begin mid-next year, paving the way for considering its removal from the grey list.

Al-Dali pointed out that the anti-money laundering system constitutes an essential part of any national system, due to its role in monitoring criminal proceeds, following them up, and preventing their misuse, as well as preventing internal and external funding sources from being diverted to terrorist groups.

He noted that the existence of a strong and effective financial system for combating money laundering and terrorist financing contributes to enhancing the confidence of local and international investors and prepares a more transparent and reliable financial environment.

Al-Dali indicated that the Financial Action Task Force for the Middle East and North Africa region confirmed that Syria is on the right track in its efforts to develop its national system for combating money laundering and terrorist financing.

It is worth noting that the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing Authority participated, represented by its chairman Safwat Ruslan, in the general meeting of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) held on Friday in the French capital Paris, presided over by the United Kingdom, following Syria's absence from participation for more than 15 years.
