Al-Halabi: Steps begin to merge Gaziantep and Health Sciences colleges into Syrian universities
Higher Education Minister confirms integration of Gaziantep and Health Sciences colleges in northern Syria into the national system.

Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister Marwan Al-Halabi confirmed that the ministry has begun today with executive steps to complete the file of merging the colleges and students belonging to the former Gaziantep University and Health Sciences University in the North, within the Syrian higher education system.

Formation of committees to oversee the merger

Minister Al-Halabi clarified in a statement published via his Facebook page today, Wednesday, that a committee has been formed within Aleppo University, chaired by University President Osama Raadoun, tasked with overseeing the completion of procedures for merging the colleges affiliated with Gaziantep University, including the colleges, buildings, university facilities, teaching and administrative staff, students, and all academic and administrative files, ensuring a complete and organized institutional transition. He noted that the committee began its work today through a meeting at Aleppo University.

Monitoring the transfer of Health Sciences students

Minister Al-Halabi pointed out that a ministerial committee has been formed within the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, tasked with monitoring the procedures for merging students of the Health Sciences University branch in Al-Ra'i, northern Syria, and transferring them to Syrian universities. The ministerial committee has begun its meetings and work today at the ministry headquarters in Damascus.

Executive procedures during the coming two weeks

Minister Al-Halabi indicated that these steps come as a continuation of a series of meetings and procedures the file has witnessed, the latest being the Higher Education Council meeting last Sunday to lay the necessary foundations for transitioning to the final implementation stage. He noted that these committees will complete their work and meetings during the current week, with executive instructions regulating the merger process to be issued completely and finally during the coming week.

Ensuring the rights of students and teachers

Minister Al-Halabi affirmed that the ministry is working on addressing all academic, administrative, and legal details of this file, preserving the rights of students and teaching and administrative staff members, and ensuring the stability of the educational process, leading to the final and clear closure of this file and transitioning to a new stage of work within the Syrian higher education system.

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research had previously formed a ministerial committee to settle the status of the branches of Gaziantep University and Health Sciences University in northern Syria, following the signing of an official memorandum of understanding last Wednesday with the Turkish Higher Education Council (YÖK) to transfer these institutions to the Syrian national system.
