Al-Hussary: Damascus-Berlin flights strengthen Syrian Airlines' presence in Europe
Civil Aviation Authority head confirms direct flights to Berlin in November to boost the national carrier's European network.

Omar Al-Hussary, head of the General Authority for Civil Aviation and Air Transport, confirmed that the launch of direct and regular Syrian Arab Airlines flights between Damascus and Berlin, starting on November 10, 2026, represents an important step in re-expanding the national carrier's network in European markets and strengthening Syria's connection to the international air transport network.

Al-Hussary clarified in a statement to SANA on Monday that the significance of this step extends beyond adding a new destination; it facilitates travel for the Syrian community in Germany and enhances movement, trade, and tourism, positively impacting the air transport sector and the national economy.

Restoring International Role

Al-Hussary noted that the national carrier's return to European destinations is part of a gradual and planned strategy that considers regulatory, operational requirements, and economic viability for each destination, in coordination with relevant authorities.

He confirmed that the Authority is working in coordination with Syrian Arab Airlines to complete the necessary arrangements for launching an additional destination in Germany, to be announced in the coming days, emphasizing that the priority is building a sustainable operational network that enhances the national carrier's competitiveness and supports Syria's restoration of its role in international air transport.

Syrian Arab Airlines previously launched its first direct flight from Damascus International Airport to Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, on September 21, marking the resumption of regular and direct air flights between the Syrian and Danish capitals.
