Flash floods that struck Raqqa province yesterday Wednesday caused the collapse of the Al-Salmani Bridge, located in the Bu’awasi area, 20 kilometers west of the city of Tabqa. This resulted in the bridge being taken out of service and a complete halt to traffic on the road connecting Raqqa and Aleppo. Relevant authorities are continuing field efforts to assess damages, address the effects of the floods, and reopen the affected roads.
For his part, Ahmed al-Shibli, Director of Press Affairs in Raqqa province, clarified that the floods caused significant damage to the bridge and its surroundings, leading to the complete closure of the road amid difficulties facing maintenance and restoration works due to the extent of damage inflicted on the infrastructure. He noted that heavy rains resulted in the death of one person yesterday, while search operations for a missing person continue.
Al-Shibli added that two girls were taken to Tabqa National Hospital before leaving the same night after receiving necessary medical care, in good health. He confirmed that relevant authorities are continuing to support the machinery deployed from the province in their field operations, alongside monitoring weather warnings and taking necessary measures to mitigate potential risks.
For their part, residents of Al-Mansoura in the countryside of Raqqa emphasized the importance of intensifying government efforts to reopen the Aleppo-Raqqa road, noting that its disruption has caused significant damage to movement. They pointed out that the road forms a vital artery connecting several areas and serves movement between Aleppo, Raqqa, Deir Ezzor, Al-Hasakah, and Qamishli, calling for urgent intervention to ensure the safe resumption of traffic.
