Al-Shatibi Establishes the Philosophy of Objectives and Interests in Al-Muwafaqat
Al-Muwafaqat offers an inductive guide balancing religious text constants with contemporary realities to protect legislative essence.

The book "Al-Muwafaqat" by the Andalusian jurist Abu Ishaq al-Shatibi, written nearly seven centuries ago, provides an inductive guide that flexibly balances the constants of religious text with the variables of contemporary reality, aiming to protect the essence of legislation from literal stagnation and uncontrolled interpretation.

Dr. Muhammad Zakariya al-Hamad, a specialist in Islamic sciences, clarified that "Al-Muwafaqat" represents a stage of historical maturity in the path of legislative thought, as it moved the theory of objectives (maqasid) to a more integrated structure, benefiting from the efforts of previous scholars such as Al-Az ibn Abd al-Salam.

For his part, Dr. Abd al-Rahman Mahmud al-Sa'di, head of the Department of Law and Personal Status at the Faculty of Sharia at Damascus University, stated that the book contributed to shifting usul al-fiqh research from focusing on semantic dimensions to studying overall objectives and interests.

The Andalusian jurist and usuli Abu Ishaq Ibrahim ibn Musa al-Lakhmi al-Shatibi died in 790 AH (1388 CE), leaving a name associated with developing research into the objectives of Sharia and establishing its methodological treatment within the jurisprudential framework in the region.

Editions and commentaries on this massive volume have followed through the ages, among which stands out the edition published by Dar Ibn Affan in 1997, edited by Abu Ubayda Mashhur ibn Hasan Al Salman.
