Alcaraz announces return to Vienna Open
Carlos Alcaraz returns to the Vienna Open, the first time since 2021.

Organizers announced the return of Spanish player Carlos Alcaraz, ranked third in the world, to the Vienna Open tennis tournament, a '500 points' event, scheduled from October 26 to November next year, for the first time since 2021.

Organizers stated in a press release that the postponement of the 'Six Kings Slam' tournament in Saudi Arabia, which Alcaraz was scheduled to participate in from October 21 to 24, led tournament director Herve Stach to contact the player's team, who quickly agreed to attend Vienna.

Alcaraz had missed several matches this season due to a right wrist injury that kept him off the courts from mid-April to the end of August, and he lost in the third round of the Shanghai Masters 1000.

Regaining competitive rhythm

Alcaraz's participation helps restore his competitive rhythm, after his performance had been inconsistent since his return; he reached the quarterfinals of the US Open and won the Tokyo title, but failed to advance past the third round in Shanghai.

The former world number one Spanish star reached the semifinals in his only previous appearance at the Austrian tournament, which was played on indoor hard courts.

Participation of the world's top ten stars

Alongside Alcaraz, the 2026 edition will feature five other players from the top ten rankings: German Alexander Zverev, Russian Daniil Medvedev, Italian Flavio Cobolli, Australian Alex de Minaur, and American Frances Tiafoe.
