The Second Directorate of Technical Services in Aleppo has enhanced cleaning operations in the Sulaymaniyah and Jamiliyah sectors by expanding night shifts and increasing the number of participating vehicles, aiming to relieve pressure on daytime and evening shifts and ensure containers and their surroundings are emptied and cleaned before morning traffic begins in the neighborhoods.
Ahmed Samou, the GPS tracking system manager for night operations, explained that the number of waste compactors has been increased to 27, in addition to ten emptying vehicles, three tankers, and two sweeping machines. He noted that shift duties include emptying containers and removing accumulated debris beside them, pointing out that some high-density areas require containers to be emptied more than once a day.
Samou further highlighted that congestion in markets and cars parked in front of containers pose the main obstacles hindering vehicle access. He clarified that the Directorate has begun issuing violations against cars obstructing work by placing stickers on their windshields. Mowafaq Al-Akhras, head of the Cleaning Section, confirmed that the night shift has contributed to improving the cleanliness level in the neighborhoods under the Directorate's jurisdiction.
Last September, Aleppo Governorate received the first batch of 110 service vehicles funded by the government, to support sectors of cleaning, roads, lighting, and parks, in addition to barrier removal and trench filling works.
