Aleppo-SANA
The Military Criminal Court in Aleppo held a sentencing session today, Thursday, for defendants accused of committing violations during the coastal events. The court convicted the defendants Waddah Ismail and Maher Ali of the crimes of assault aimed at inciting civil war and sectarian fighting, and of leading armed gangs to attack public forces.
For his part, the court convicted the defendant Maher Osman of intervening in the aforementioned crimes. Accordingly, the court sentenced defendants Waddah Ismail and Maher Ali to death, and defendant Maher Osman to 12 years in prison.
Previous Rulings and Judicial Decisions
The court had previously issued rulings on September 17 against four defendants in the coastal violations, sentencing one to death, the second to life imprisonment, and the third to 20 years in prison, while acquitting the fourth defendant. The first public trial sessions for defendants accused of committing violations during the coastal events began on November 18, 2025, at the Palace of Justice in Aleppo, in the presence of the victims' families.
Investigation Details and Results
The court held several public sessions dedicated to reviewing evidence and discussing defenses presented by the defendants, in the presence of relevant judicial authorities. The National Commission for Investigation and Fact-Finding on the Coastal Events had issued a report on July 22, 2025, clarifying that remnants of the ousted regime carried out wide-ranging attacks on March 6, 2025, targeting military and security headquarters, resulting in the martyrdom of 238 personnel.
The commission also recorded violations affecting civilians in the following days, and investigations revealed that these acts were not organized, but committed by individuals and small groups with varying motives, characterized by an individual and random nature far from any systematic pattern.
