Algeria Marks 72nd Anniversary of the Outbreak of the Liberation Revolution
Algeria commemorates the 1954 revolution against French colonialism, honoring the sacrifices of its people.

The People's Democratic Republic of Algeria today, Sunday, marks the 72nd anniversary of the outbreak of the Liberation Revolution in 1954, which constituted a pivotal milestone in the country's history and its people's struggle against French colonialism, leading to the attainment of independence in 1962.

The spark of the Liberation Revolution was ignited on the night of November 1, 1954, in the Aur猫s Mountains, located in eastern Algeria, where the first shot was fired signaling the beginning of the struggle against French colonialism, which had occupied the country in 1830, in an epic that lasted seven years during which the Algerian people offered the highest lessons of struggle and sacrifice for the sake of freedom.

Despite French colonial attempts over 132 years to deter the Algerian people from their goal, frustrate their resolve, and diminish their efforts for freedom, Algerians remained committed to their right to independence and made significant sacrifices in lives and blood that history cannot forget or ignore. The number of martyrs reached more than 5.63 million, including 1.5 million martyrs during the Liberation War.

The Liberation Epic and "The Kiss of the Revolutionaries"

The Algerian Liberation Revolution transcended the boundaries of national struggle, becoming a model for liberation movements around the world and a school of struggle, sacrifice, and belief in victory. This made Algeria an inspiration for liberation movements in all corners of the earth, rightfully earning the title "The Kiss of the Revolutionaries."

The night of November 1 embodied the highest forms of solidarity between the Algerian people and the National Liberation Army, despite the simplicity of the available resources at the time. The spirit of solidarity and support passed from one generation to another, manifesting today in the harmony of the Algerian people and their support for their National People's Army, working together to face challenges and threats, preserve national memory, and fortify it.

On this occasion, the Embassy of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria in Damascus commemorates this anniversary, providing an opportunity to recall the stances of sister and friendly countries, such as Syria, which embodied the finest meanings of brotherhood, chivalry, honor, and shared destiny in supporting the Algerian Revolution.
