At dawn on Sunday, June 28, the US military targeted Iran again hours after targeting an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, and Iran responded by attempting to target sites in Kuwait and Bahrain, in the worst escalation since the two sides signed a ceasefire agreement.
The two countries have accused each other of violating the agreement reached about two weeks ago to end the four-month-old conflict, and US President Donald Trump warned that the United States would have to complete the mission militarily, noting that Iran would "cease to exist" if the United States decided to escalate.
US President Donald Trump said that the US military bombed Iran's missile storage sites, drones and coastal radar sites against the background of its violation of the ceasefire agreement between the two countries.
"There may come a time when we will no longer be able to act rationally, and we will have to complete the mission militarily after we have started it with great success," Trump wrote on Truth Social, adding that "if that happens, the Islamic Republic of Iran will no longer exist."
U.S. Central Command Statement
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said that its forces carried out additional strikes against multiple targets in Iran, today, under the direction of Supreme Commander President Donald Trump.
After the US strikes launched yesterday in response to the Iranian attack on the oil tanker Ever Lovely, the command explained in a statement that Iran had the opportunity to abide by the ceasefire agreement, but chose not to do so when its forces launched a drone attack on the oil tanker "Kiko" this morning (Saturday).
It confirmed that the tanker, which flies the Panama flag, was crossing near the Strait of Hormuz loaded with more than two million barrels of crude oil, indicating that its forces launched airstrikes today in direct response to what it described as Iran's ongoing aggression on commercial navigation.
The command noted that US military aircraft targeted Iran's military surveillance infrastructure, communications systems, air defense sites, drone storage facilities, and mine-laying capabilities, stressing that the movement of commercial ships continues through the Strait of Hormuz, and that its forces remain alert and ready.
Kuwait, Bahrain defenses intercept Iranian missiles at dawn on Sunday
At dawn on Sunday (July 28th), air defense systems in Kuwait and Bahrain intercepted a vehicle attack launched by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which included ballistic missiles and suicide drones, in conjunction with the activation of sirens in the two countries.
The IRGC confirmed its claim for the attack, which targeted eight US facilities and bases in the Gulf, including Ali al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait and the headquarters of the Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, in response to recent US raids on the Iranian coast.
The Kuwaiti General Staff announced that the explosions heard across the country were the result of the interception of air defenses of hostile targets, while Bahrain activated sirens through minarets and mobile applications, confirming that all targets were shot down in coordination with US forces.
