American farmer breaks world pumpkin record with 1,431.5 kg weight
Ron Wallace surpasses the previous 1,295.8 kg record, setting a new mark in Rhode Island, USA.

American farmer Ron Wallace broke the world record for the heaviest pumpkin, after the fruit he grew weighed 1,431.5 kg, surpassing the previous record of 1,295.8 kg, which was set in Britain just one week earlier, in a rare incident where the record was broken twice within a week.

The Guinness World Records website reported on Wednesday that Wallace achieved this feat on the 10th of the current month, during a giant pumpkin weighing competition held at the Freireich farm near Warren city in Rhode Island, USA, under the supervision of officials from the "Giant Pumpkin Commonwealth" organization.

For his part, British farmer Ian Patton set a new record on October 3 with a fruit weighing 1,295.8 kg, before being surpassed by Wallace after seven days, becoming the first farmer to successfully register a pumpkin weighing over 1,361 kg, i.e., three thousand pounds.

Wallace added that the last agricultural season was highly ideal, noting that he relied for the first time on greenhouse cultivation, and that the result was the fruit of a long season of work and attention to scientific details related to growing giant pumpkins.

This is the third time Wallace has won the title of world's heaviest pumpkin, after previous achievements in 2006 and 2012; the first weighed 681.3 kg, and the second 911.27 kg.

These figures indicate the development that giant pumpkin cultivation has witnessed in recent years, with farmers continuing to improve cultivation methods and plant care to reach new record weights.
