Amnesty International calls for accountability for Israel's attacks in Syria
Amnesty International urges accountability for Israel's violations in Syria and Lebanon, while Syria condemns attacks at the UN.

Amnesty International confirmed that Israel continues to carry out military attacks on Syria, emphasizing the need to hold it accountable for violations of international law. Erika Guevara Rosas, the organization's Senior Director of Research, Policy, Advocacy and Campaigns, stated in a statement on the organization's website on Friday that Israel has carried out illegal destruction of civilian property and continues to carry out military attacks in Syria.

She added that Israel also carried out bloody attacks in Lebanon, killing thousands of people, deliberately destroying homes and civilian infrastructure, and destroying livelihoods through restrictions or denying farmers access to their crops and agricultural land, while continuing to forcibly displace tens of thousands of civilians from southern Lebanon.

Rosas pointed out that millions of people, including Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territories and civilians in Lebanon and Syria, are facing the consequences of Israeli policies and actions. She noted that the continued impunity for Israeli violations encourages further crimes, calling on states to take diplomatic and economic measures to pressure Israel and stop its violations in the region.

She called for accountability measures, including imposing an arms embargo on Israel and ending forms of cooperation that contribute to maintaining the illegal Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories. Syria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ibrahim Al-Aleeb, earlier today condemned the Israeli attacks on Syria, noting that Israel had not only committed violations and incursions into southern Syria, but also bombed sites inside the country on the same day that International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi was visiting Syria to follow up on efforts to conclude the nuclear file.
