Arab condemnations followed Colombia's opening of its embassy in the occupied city of Jerusalem, a step described by officials as a violation of international law and resolutions of legitimacy, and an infringement on the legal and historical status of the city, as well as an assault on the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
Arab Parliament
Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Yamahi, President of the Arab Parliament, strongly condemned the opening of the embassy, affirming that Jerusalem is an inseparable part of the occupied Palestinian territories, and that unilateral measures aimed at changing its identity or legal status are null and void and create no legal rights.
Al-Yamahi called on Colombia to immediately reverse this step and comply with United Nations resolutions, while urging the international community and the Security Council to counter attempts to impose a new reality in the occupied Palestinian land, warning that these measures undermine the prospects for just and comprehensive peace and the foundations of the two-state solution.
Egypt
For its part, Egypt condemned the opening of the embassy, emphasizing its firm rejection of the step that undermines efforts to achieve peace and represents an attempt to impose a fait accompli affecting the legal and historical status of occupied Jerusalem.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed in a statement the nullity of unilateral measures aimed at changing the status of the city, and the necessity of respecting resolutions of international legitimacy and adhering to the two-state solution, which ensures the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with Jerusalem as its capital.
Kuwait
For its part, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the opening of the embassy, affirming Kuwait's firm rejection of this step and all practices aimed at changing the existing legal and historical status in occupied Jerusalem.
The Ministry called on the international community and the Security Council to shoulder their responsibilities in confronting attempts to impose a new reality in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The Foreign Ministry reiterated Kuwait's firm position supporting the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among which is the establishment of their independent state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with Jerusalem as its capital.
Colombia opened its embassy in occupied Jerusalem today, Wednesday, becoming the tenth country to take this step, following the new Colombian President's ending of the rift with Israel established by his predecessor in May 2024 in the wake of Israeli violations in the Gaza Strip.
