The Arab League, during an extraordinary session of the League Council at the level of Permanent Representatives held today Tuesday in Cairo, affirmed that the escalation of settlements and Israeli attacks in the occupied Palestinian territories requires urgent international action to provide protection for the Palestinian people and ensure respect for international law.

For his part, Fayyad Mustafa, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Palestine and Occupied Arab Lands Sector at the Arab League, confirmed that the meeting is held in the midst of dangerous developments, as occupation forces and settlers continue their attacks against Palestinians and their property, as part of policies aimed at entrenching the occupation, expanding settlements, and imposing new facts on the ground.

Mustafa added that the continued confiscation of land, settlement expansion, and displacement of Palestinians undermine the chances of achieving peace, noting that these practices constitute a blatant violation of international law and require a firm stance from the international community and accountability for those responsible.

In the same context, he pointed out that these developments coincide with the ongoing humanitarian suffering in the Gaza Strip due to destruction and displacement, reiterating the League's necessity to ensure the unhindered entry of humanitarian aid and provide protection for civilians, and rejecting any attempts to displace the Strip's residents or undermine the unity of Palestinian lands.

He stressed that the Gaza Strip is an inseparable part of the Palestinian territories, and its future is linked to ending the occupation and establishing an independent, sovereign Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

It is worth noting that the number of victims of the genocide war waged by the Israeli occupation on the Gaza Strip has risen since October 7, 2023, to 74,389 killed and 175,423 injured, according to data issued by the Palestinian Ministry of Health today Tuesday.
