Arab Writers Union Launches Friends Club to Nurture Youth Talents
The Arab Writers Union launches the Friends Club in Damascus to engage Syrian youth in literature and creative development.

The Arab Writers Union launched the activities of the "Friends of the Union Club" at its headquarters in Damascus today, Monday, under the theme "The Passion for Writing and the Horizon of Art," in a move aimed at attracting Syrian youth interested in literature, developing their creative talents, and activating their participation in the national cultural movement.

The introductory meeting began with a structural overview of the club, its objectives, and its working mechanisms. Marwa Abdul Salam, the club's supervisor, emphasized the importance of fieldwork and direct communication to reach young people and understand their interests and needs, calling on attendees to submit practical, executable proposals to be studied and approved.

Hiba Allah Badr, the director of the media department at the Union, clarified that the club falls under the Directorate of Activities and Events and has branches in several governorates, including Homs, Aleppo, Hama, and Daraa, aiming to restore its cultural presence and nurture young talents. Badr added that the future plan focuses on organizing specialized training workshops in creative writing (novels, short stories, and poetry) to develop young writers' tools on cognitive and artistic foundations, noting that this meeting represents an opportunity to transform youth from "receivers" to "active partners" in preparing and implementing events.

For his part, Tariq Al-Arefi, director of the Publishing and Events Directorate at the Arab Writers Union, stated in a statement to SANA that the club constitutes a cultural initiative to enhance human communication and consolidate cooperation among different literary generations, and to entrench the culture of dialogue and joint work. He pointed out that the club works as an effective platform to highlight cultural and historical identity, and to empower creative youth to present initiatives that contribute to bridging viewpoints and facing challenges with a shared vision, thereby enhancing their tangible presence in the literary landscape.

Al-Arefi added that the upcoming phase will see the establishment of specialized training workshops under the supervision of writers and specialists, covering various literary genres, stressing that building a sustainable cultural and literary future requires investing in young energies and highlighting their achievements to enhance a purposeful culture and constructive dialogue. The launch of the club comes within the strategy of the Arab Writers Union to expand youth participation and create spaces capable of enriching the Syrian literary scene with new creative energies and experiences.
