The President of the General Union of Artisans, Eyad Najjar, held discussions with a delegation from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), led by the Director of the Arab Program for Industrial Development, Kamel Al-Abaseri, regarding prospects for joint cooperation and ways to enhance partnerships to support the artisan sector and develop creative industries in Syria.

Work Priorities and Alignment

The Union, via its Facebook page on Sunday, clarified that the meeting held at the Union's headquarters addressed work priorities and their alignment with the organization's projects, which were developed in consultation with governmental partners. These projects included the Creative Industries project in collaboration with the Artisans Union, as well as other initiatives related to industrial policies, statistics, quality infrastructure, energy, and food safety.

"Ibdaa Syria" Project

Both sides also reviewed the "Ibdaa Syria" project, which UNIDO is developing in collaboration with the Union and a number of relevant Syrian ministries and entities. The project aims to support the artisan sector, develop skills, and enhance opportunities for development and qualification, in line with the needs of artisans and the requirements of the coming stage.

Enhancing International Partnerships

The visit comes within the framework of the Union's efforts to enhance partnerships with international organizations and national entities, thereby supporting the development of the artisan sector and expanding its contribution to economic and social development. UNIDO, established in 1966 and becoming a specialized UN agency in 1985, is an entity concerned with supporting comprehensive and sustainable industrial development and enhancing industrial cooperation at international, regional, and sectoral levels.
