Aston Villa files lawsuit against pundit Jamie Carragher
Aston Villa takes legal action against Jamie Carragher for unacceptable insults directed at the club and its fans.

English club Aston Villa announced legal action against sports pundit Jamie Carragher, accusing him of launching unacceptable insults against the first football team and its fans. This came after comments made by Carragher on the "Stick to Football" podcast, where he asked the club's fans to be quiet, noting that Aston Villa would never be Manchester United.

Aston Villa chairman Nassef Sawiris stated that the club would not allow anyone to stop its rise in English and European football. The club did not specify the legal basis for these actions, but the response came immediately after Carragher's comments, which discussed expectations for Unai Emery, Aston Villa's manager, to lead Manchester United.

For his part, Carragher attempted to calm the situation through a post on social media platforms, emphasizing that he was only joking with the fans. He pointed out that the satirical clips aimed to show his admiration for Emery and Villa, as he has done for years, expressing his happiness at their victory in the 2026 Europa League in Istanbul.

The sports pundit added that he expresses great appreciation for the Spaniard Emery, not shortcomings in the team. He clarified that Emery is considered one of the best coaches in the English Premier League, noting that his comments were a response to criticism previously directed at him by fans.
