Australian Study: Coronavirus Vaccine Does Not Worsen Smell and Taste Disorders
A University of Queensland study proves vaccination does not increase smell and taste loss symptoms in coronavirus recoverees.

Study Results

A recent Australian study showed that receiving the coronavirus vaccine is not associated with worsening smell and taste disorders in most people who continue to suffer from these symptoms after recovery, while some participants recorded improvement in their condition.

The Russian website "Novaya Gazeta" reported on Tuesday that the study, conducted by researchers from the Molecular Biology Institute at the University of Queensland in Australia and involving participants from 52 countries, showed that more than 90 percent of people who received the vaccine did not notice a deterioration in their smell and taste disorders.

Research Methodology

The researchers followed cases involving distorted perception of smells, feeling smells that do not exist, and taste disorders, aiming to evaluate the relationship between vaccination and changes occurring in these symptoms among recoverees.

The researchers pointed out that the improvement recorded among some participants may be related to vaccination or natural recovery over time, necessitating further studies to determine the nature of the relationship between the two factors.

Importance of Results

Smell and taste disorders are known symptoms of coronavirus infection and may persist in some patients after the infection has cleared, affecting their quality of life and ability to distinguish smells and flavors.

The study results provide additional information on the safety of vaccination for people suffering from these persistent disorders, with the need to interpret the results in light of the nature of the study and the characteristics of its participants.
