Ayn Issa National Hospital, located in the northern countryside of Raqqa on the M4 highway, provides medical and emergency services to approximately 150,000 residents of the city and surrounding rural areas, amid challenges related to the shortage of some equipment and specialized staff, which limits the capacity of some of its departments to operate at full capacity.
The hospital director, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Hamoud, stated on Sunday in a statement to SANA that the hospital receives between 100 and 150 cases daily, most of which are emergencies resulting from traffic accidents, fractures, and falls, in addition to pediatric and gynecological emergencies. Al-Hamoud clarified that the emergency, minor surgery, and pharmacy departments, which provide free medication, operate fully, while the laboratory, radiology, specialized clinics, and vaccination departments operate partially according to available resources.
Hospital Needs
Al-Hamoud pointed out the hospital's need for a generator or a solar power system to ensure continuity of work, infrastructure rehabilitation, equipping a fully integrated emergency operating room and intensive care units, activating specialized clinics and dialysis and diabetes departments, equipping a labor room, and providing specialized medical, nursing, and technical staff. He noted that the hospital currently includes 13 nurses and about 17 technicians in radiology, laboratory, and pharmacy specialties.
Regarding organizational support, Al-Hamoud explained that the Spanish organization Doctors Without Borders provides partial assistance for some emergency cases, particularly accident injuries, fractures, and landmines, without covering all cases, necessitating an expansion of support and enhancement of the hospital's medical capabilities.
Demands for Service Development
Citizen Mustafa Al-Mohammed, from the residents of southern Tel Al-Saman, praised the staff's good treatment of patients despite the work pressure and their service to the region's people, calling for strengthening the hospital with staff and integrated laboratories to limit patients' need to travel to other areas. In turn, Abdullah Al-Jabbar, from the Al-Hurriya area, highlighted the importance of the provided services, especially in emergency cases, noting the need to develop departments and provide modern medical equipment to alleviate burdens on patients.
Ayn Issa National Hospital is a key point for providing health services to residents of the northern countryside of Raqqa, as it contributes to meeting their medical needs and providing healthcare to visitors.
