Barak: Netanyahu wants to attack Iran to cling to power
Former Israeli PM Ehud Barak claims Netanyahu seeks war with Iran to stay in office.

Allegations of clinging to power

Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak stated on Monday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is seeking to attack Iran to cling to power. Barak confirmed to "103 FM" radio that he has been concerned about this matter for a month, noting that Netanyahu is trying to drag Israel into a war that could lead to severe consequences or strengthen Iran.

Barak pointed out that the most worrying aspect is that this is happening merely to cling to power, adding that there is no intelligence information requiring immediate action against Iran, and the measure can be taken in six or eight weeks when a new government is in place.

Election results and scenarios

Preliminary results showed Netanyahu's camp securing 53 seats out of 120 in the Knesset, compared to 48 for the Jewish opposition camp and 19 for Arab parties. These results place Israel before five scenarios, including forming a government with Arab party support, a unity government, splitting the opposition ranks, a transitional government, or new elections.

Official election results will be announced on Wednesday, and the swearing-in session is expected to take place on November 10. Leaders in the Israeli opposition accuse Netanyahu of seeking to bomb Iran to disrupt the formation of the next government after failing to secure a majority to form it.

Warnings of a misleading war

Barak warned that such a misleading war creates a state of emergency in the country and obstructs the usual procedures for the swearing-in ceremony in the Knesset. He added that during wartime, the government has the authority to designate areas where gatherings are prohibited, which could lead to the cancellation of the swearing-in ceremony or create pressure to form a national unity government.

Barak also believed that the issue of confrontation with Iran should be left to a new government, criticizing Netanyahu, who promised absolute victory on six occasions but has no idea how to end wars, noting his need for an eternal war to divert the discussion from his controversial record.
