Basel Hawsh Combines Training, Refereeing, and Achievements in Strength Sports
Basel Hawsh combines training, refereeing, and achievements in strength sports after starting his athletic journey late.

Basel Hawsh combines practicing strength sports with training and refereeing, achieving outstanding results in local and Arab championships, and dedicating his experience to qualifying players, referees, and coaches, despite his late start in this sport.

Hawsh explained in a statement to SANA that his athletic beginnings were at the age of fifteen, through discus and javelin throw in school competitions, before he moved at the age of twenty to Chinese wrestling, boxing, and judo, with the aim of maintaining his physical fitness. His serious journey in strength sports began at the age of 58, under the supervision of coaches Ayman Tahan and World Champion Omar Al-Masri.

Regarding achievements, Hawsh secured several high placements in Republic championships, the most notable being three medals at the 2026 championship, consisting of two golds and one silver. He also won three golds and one silver at the Arab Championship in Lebanon in 2023, and earned the title of Champion of Champions at the West Asia Cup in Qatar in 2025, securing five gold medals.

In the field of refereeing, Hawsh holds the position of Head of the Technical Committee for Strength Sports in Damascus Governorate. He has participated as a chief referee in 45 championships. He also contributes to qualifying referees and coaches through lectures and specialized courses, and strives to follow updates to the international refereeing system issued by the International Federation, working to implement them locally.

Hawsh is currently supervising the training of seven male and female athletes, putting his experience at the service of developing the sport and preparing new champions, in a journey that confirms that ambition and will are not tied to a specific age.
