Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen advance to the German Cup Round of 16 after crushing Magdeburg and Nuremberg respectively.

Bayern Munich secured their place in the Round of 16 of the German Cup, thrashing their guests Magdeburg, who play in the second division, 6-1 on Wednesday at the Allianz Arena, in the Round of 32 matches. The Bavarian team imposed its dominance despite the absence of its English star Harry Kane, as Frenchman Michael Olise shone by scoring two goals, while Moroccan Ismail Saitabari, Alphonso Davies, Nathaniel Brown, and Portuguese David da Silva scored the remaining goals.

In the same context, Kane received a grand welcome from his teammates and Bayern fans before the match began, a day after being awarded the best player in the world prize during a ceremony held in London. The team also received good news about the return of their Belgian coach Vincent Kompany from the hospital, after 5 days of being admitted following his fall during training with the club's second team. Olise opened the scoring in the 10th minute with an assist from Saitabari, before Mateusz Zokowski equalized for Magdeburg five minutes later.

Leverkusen's uprising

Bayern regained the lead in the 21st minute through Saitabari with an assist from Olise, who added a third goal from a penalty kick in the 51st minute. Young striker Linhart Karl created two consecutive goals for Davies and Brown in the 70th and 73rd minutes, before David da Silva closed the goal festival in the third minute of stoppage time. In another match, Bayer Leverkusen overturned a deficit to defeat hosts Nuremberg 5-2, thanks to a brace from Edmond Tapsoba, and goals from Patrick Schick, Jonas Hofmann, and Lucas Vazquez.

Stuttgart also defeated Paderborn 1-0, with Deniz Undav scoring in the 90th minute, taking advantage of the numerical disadvantage in his opponent's ranks. Freiburg qualified with a thrilling 3-2 win over Wolfsburg, as Japanese player Keisuke Goto scored two goals in the last 15 minutes, including the winning goal in stoppage time. In other matches, Dynamo Dresden and Hertha Berlin defeated Schalke and Jeddah 2-0 respectively, and Kaiserslautern defeated Hannover with the same score. Holstein Kiel also advanced to the Round of 16 at the expense of Hoffenheim on penalties 4-3, after the regular time ended in a 1-1 draw.
