The Speaker of the Lebanese House of Representatives, Nabih Berri, confirmed on Thursday that Hezbollah will abide by the ceasefire as long as the occupation is fully and comprehensively committed to it.
"I reiterate Lebanon's position and Hezbollah's commitment to the ceasefire as long as Israel fully and comprehensively adheres to it," Berri said.
Berri, an ally of Hezbollah, added that "this comes to facilitate the success of the Iranian-American negotiations in Switzerland, especially with regard to the first item of the Iran-US memorandum of understanding," referring also to US President Donald Trump's statement on the ceasefire between Israel, Lebanon and Hezbollah.
Trump administration launches scathing attack on Hezbollah
The US State Department launched a scathing attack on Hizbullah after imposing sanctions targeting several Lebanese figures under the pretext of their links to it.
The ministry said it had imposed sanctions on Lebanese officials allied with Hezbollah for systematically undermining state authority.
It added that the activities of Hizbullah allies are entrenching a parallel system of power that keeps Lebanon weak and divided, according to the statement.
The US statement claimed that Hezbollah is the biggest obstacle to Lebanon's recovery and is holding the state hostage to a perpetual conflict, indicating that the party must disarm in order to achieve lasting peace in the region and ensure Lebanon's stability and prosperity.
Washington imposes sanctions on prominent Lebanese figures
The US Treasury Department, through the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), announced the imposition of a new sanctions package targeting Lebanese officials allied with Hezbollah, in addition to expanding the list of economic entities and front companies across several Arab countries.
The move came under Counterterrorism Order 13224, with Washington asserting that the targets "used their political and institutional influence to obstruct the peace process and undermine the sovereignty of the Lebanese state."
The US administration stressed in the words of Treasury Secretary Scott Besant that "Hizbullah must disarm in order to achieve a secure future for Lebanon," stressing that anyone who provides political or financial cover to the party will continue to be pursued.
In response to the sanctions, Frangieh said in a post on the X platform that the sanctions "do not concern him," adding that "the accusation of standing with a Lebanese component against an enemy occupying the territory is not an apology."
The US sanctions have targeted Suleiman Frangieh , who has been accused by the Treasury Department of receiving financial support from Hizbullah in exchange for strengthening its political alliance and contributing to the targeting of reformist and independent MPs.
The sanctions also targeted Mahmoud Qamati for his direct role within the party and for coordinating the smuggling of cash from Iran for his benefit.
