Binance Resumes Withdrawals After Compensating 95% of Stolen Assets
Binance gradually resumes withdrawals after compensating 95% of stolen assets worth $6.3 billion using its own funds.

The cryptocurrency trading platform "Binance" announced on Sunday the gradual resumption of withdrawals, following its compensation of approximately 95% of the digital assets stolen in a security breach that resulted in losses of about $6.3 billion.

The platform stated in a statement that the first phase of the withdrawal resumption includes 15 digital currencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Dogecoin, and Ripple. It clarified that it has restored assets equivalent to approximately 95% of the affected assets, using the company's funds to purchase alternative assets, while continuing to work on covering the remaining 5%.

For its part, the platform pointed out that the assets whose coverage was not completed are less liquid in the markets, making it take longer to purchase the required quantities. It confirmed that withdrawals will resume in stages, with other coins and networks added successively after completing the necessary technical and security checks.

It added that it will bear all losses resulting from the breach, without imposing any financial burdens on its users. The platform had announced on Thursday that its internet-connected digital wallets were subject to a security breach, which led it to temporarily suspend withdrawal operations. It clarified that it had allocated more than $6.34 billion from its resources and insurance funds to cover the losses.

The platform, in cooperation with specialized entities, managed to freeze assets worth approximately $3 billion on blockchain networks. It stated that preliminary investigations indicated the possibility that a laptop belonging to one of the development engineers was hacked. Following the attack, Bitcoin's price fell by approximately 3.18% in Friday's trading to $77,700.
