Blood donation campaign in Al-Hula to support Homs blood bank reserves
Doctors Without Borders and Homs Health Directorate organize a campaign in Al-Hula to boost blood reserves and secure emergency units for patients.

Doctors Without Borders, in cooperation with the Homs Health Directorate, organized a blood donation campaign today, Sunday, in front of the Taldo Health Center in the Al-Hula area, aiming to strengthen the blood bank's reserves and secure emergency units for patients, amid good turnout from residents.

Taldo Health Area Director Nayef Al-Qaddour explained that the campaign lasts for one day and aims to replenish the blood bank with the necessary units to meet patients' needs. He noted that it allows donors to learn their blood types, in addition to benefiting from medical examinations related to the donation process.

For his part, Dr. Kamel Kashi, the examining physician at the mobile blood collection clinic, stated that the participating team operates through two vehicles equipped with a laboratory to conduct necessary tests, including measuring hemoglobin levels and determining blood types. Kashi pointed out that donation procedures involve assessing the donors' health status, verifying the medications they take and any potential medical contraindications, and ensuring that hemoglobin levels are within the required limits, thereby guaranteeing donor safety.

Kashi highlighted that the turnout for the campaign is excellent, explaining that there is a plan to organize periodic campaigns covering rural areas and the city of Homs, reaching approximately 50 points over nearly 100 days, with the goal of expanding the scope of donation and strengthening blood bank reserves.

For his part, participant Saad Harfoush confirmed that his participation came after he learned about the campaign announcement via social media, driven by the importance of blood donation in enhancing community solidarity and providing units for patients, especially those who need them before or during surgical operations. Harfoush called on residents to participate in donation campaigns, emphasizing that securing a sufficient blood reserve is a humanitarian and social responsibility, as anyone may need blood units at some point to save their own life or that of a family member.

The campaign comes as a continuation of efforts to promote the culture of voluntary blood donation among members of society, and to enhance awareness of its importance as a humanitarian act that contributes to saving the lives of patients and the injured, and ensuring the availability of safe and sufficient blood units to meet the needs of hospitals and emergency and medical cases, especially those with chronic diseases.
