Bolsonaro leaves Brazil for the US via Argentina
Brazilian senator leaves for America after election loss, accompanied by a former Mossad agent.

Brazilian media reported that right-wing senator Flavio Bolsonaro left the country for the United States, following his defeat in the presidential elections, passing through Argentina where he arrived accompanied by a former agent of the Israeli intelligence agency (Mossad). CNN Brazil reported on Saturday evening that Bolsonaro had left the country, without specifying the date of his departure.

Travel Details

The channel, citing surveillance camera recordings, stated that Bolsonaro crossed into Argentina by land, accompanied by his wife and two daughters, via the Tancredo Neves International Bridge located in the south of the country. It noted that a former Israeli intelligence official, who previously worked for the Mossad, arrived in Brazil on October 19 and accompanied Bolsonaro to Argentina.

It added that the Bolsonaro family boarded a private Gulfstream G400 aircraft in the Argentine city of Puerto Iguazu, operated by the Argentine private airline Piers Fly. The Brazilian judiciary had decided to confiscate Bolsonaro's passport, as he is under investigation for corruption and money laundering cases, but it later became clear that he had secretly left Brazil.

Reactions and Investigations

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva described the senator's departure from the country, despite a court order banning him from traveling abroad, as "shameful" in a statement. Brazilian press reports indicated that the Federal Supreme Court was investigating Flavio Bolsonaro regarding allegations of illegal funding for a biographical film about his father's life, titled "The Black Horse."

Brazilian newspapers O Estado de S. Paulo and O Globo also reported that Bolsonaro is a suspect in another investigation concerning money laundering, allegedly linked to his close friend and lawyer, Weller Thomas. According to data from Brazil's Superior Electoral Court, Lula won 51.78 percent of the valid votes in the second round held last Sunday, compared to 48.22 percent for his rival Flavio Bolsonaro.

US Position

Following the Brazilian presidential elections, US President Donald Trump expressed doubt about the results and allowed Bolsonaro and his family members to enter and stay in the United States.
