Brazil denies Trump's claims of irregularities in presidential election
Brazil's Vice President denies Trump's claims of election fraud, calling the electronic voting system a global model.

Denial of Claims

Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin denied the validity of US President Donald Trump's allegations regarding irregularities in the Brazilian presidential election, describing them as "baseless." Alckmin made these remarks in an interview with the local "Rede Vanguarda" channel on Monday evening, commenting on the election won by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Alckmin added in this regard: "First and foremost, it is not permissible to interfere in the internal political affairs of another country; this is a fundamental rule. Second, Trump has no evidence to support such claims." He pointed out that Brazil's electronic voting system, along with its legal and democratic guarantees, represents a "globally exemplary model."

Election Results

He continued, "The rules of democracy are clear: you either win the election or you lose it, and the final decision rests with the will of the people." For his part, US President Donald Trump stated in press remarks on Monday evening that the electoral process in last Sunday's Brazilian presidential contest "left a bad impression."

Trump added: "Frankly, it once again seemed like a rigged election. I did not side with any party, but it left a very bad impression worldwide." According to data from Brazil's Superior Electoral Court, after 99.98 percent of votes were counted in the second round, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva received 51.78 percent of valid votes, compared to 48.22 percent for his rival Flávio Bolsonaro.

Tense Relations

Da Silva's victory came at a time when Latin America is seeing conservative governments come to power in several countries, including Chile, Colombia, and Peru, some of which are seeking closer ties with Trump. US-Brazil relations have been strained following Trump's imposition of tariffs on Brazilian goods.

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva had previously accused the United States of interfering in Brazil's internal affairs, making national sovereignty a central pillar of his electoral campaign.
