British runner sets Guinness record after 99 days of running
Ismey Ghamer broke a record by covering 5,000 km across Britain and Ireland to support sports and mental health.

British runner Ismey Ghamer set a Guinness World Record after covering a distance of 5,000 kilometers across the United Kingdom and Ireland over 99 consecutive days. This journey combined a test of endurance with encouraging everyone to exercise, becoming a notable achievement in the world of sports.

Guinness World Records reported on Wednesday that Ghamer, 35, set a record by hosting 76 running clubs in various cities. The "The Neshans 5K" initiative launched on June 27 and concluded in London on October 3.

The initiative aimed to make sports accessible to all. Ghamer organized free five-kilometer races, welcoming athletes, beginners, and wheelchair users. She ensured she was the last to cross the finish line to encourage participants to continue without focusing on speed or arrival order. The initiative also raised donations to support research on spinal cord injuries and mental health.

Ghamer's journey holds special significance given her health experience. At age 18, she suffered paralysis from the waist down due to complications following surgery. Doctors at the time told her she might never walk again, but she managed to regain her ability to walk, dance, and run before undertaking long-distance athletic challenges.

Reports indicate that her latest achievement brought thousands of participants together around the goal of encouraging physical activity, reflecting her determination to turn her personal challenge into motivation for others. This journey proved that strong willpower can overcome significant physical difficulties.
