Several Palestinian factions will begin preliminary meetings on Wednesday, preceding a comprehensive dialogue among all factions, in the Egyptian capital Cairo, according to a spokesperson for Fatah.

Abdel Fattah Dawood, a spokesperson for the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah), confirmed to Anadolu that "a dialogue between several Palestinian factions begins on Wednesday in Cairo, paving the way for a comprehensive dialogue."

He added that, alongside Fatah, the participants in Wednesday's dialogue include the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), Islamic Jihad, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. Fatah's spokesperson estimated that the preliminary dialogues would last at most two days, clarifying that the timing of the comprehensive dialogue would be determined after the preliminary talks, and could resume on October 20.

He explained that the preliminary dialogues would complete "consultations and preparations for the comprehensive dialogue and reaffirm the pillars of national consensus." He noted that the Fatah delegation includes Central Committee Secretary Jibril Rajoub and Central Committee member Muhammad Shtayyeh, who will arrive in Cairo on Wednesday. No immediate comment was issued by the other factions mentioned by Dawood.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Central Committee of Fatah stressed in a statement, following its meeting in Ramallah, the "importance of continuing the comprehensive national dialogue with various Palestinian forces and factions, and giving opportunity to the efforts of this dialogue, which strengthens national unity and preserves the unity of the land, the cause, and the national decision."

On Saturday, Jibril Rajoub said that a Fatah delegation held direct meetings with factions in Cairo over two days, pointing to the resumption of the national dialogue on Wednesday. He added in televised statements that there is a "clear Egyptian official will to achieve Palestinian national consensus," and that the three factions met—Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and the Popular Front—had a "strategic stance to build a state of consensus."

The meetings in Cairo come days after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas issued a presidential decree on Saturday, setting September 11, 2027, as the date for simultaneous presidential and legislative elections, replacing the previous date set for legislative elections in November 2026. Fatah welcomed the postponement, while Hamas stated that the decision to postpone the elections to next year should lead to a comprehensive, serious, and fruitful national dialogue.

It confirmed its readiness to engage in this dialogue to reach clear and binding results for all parties, including mechanisms for organizing Palestinian institutions, particularly the National Council and the Legislative Council.
