Mexican boxing star Saul Canelo Alvarez arrived in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, on Monday morning, where he was received by Engineer Faisal Bafarhat, CEO of the General Entertainment Authority (GEA), in preparation for the anticipated bout against French-Cameroonian Christian Mbili for the World Boxing Council (WBC) super middleweight title. The fight is part of the global event "Mexico vs. The World," organized next Saturday at The Venue as part of the seventh edition of the Riyadh Season.
Canelo was accompanied by several boxers participating in the bouts: Mexicans Carlos Emiliano, Manuel Rocio Salcedo, Rafael Espinoza Zebada, and Jaime Mongia; Saudi Sultan Al-Mohammadi; and Ukrainian Alexander Uzik, who made sure to attend this major fight. Canelo's arrival follows that of his opponent Mbili, who reached Riyadh earlier in preparation for a clash between two of the world's most prominent boxing stars, amid significant media and public interest in the matchup, as the Mexican star seeks to regain the world title.
Event Schedule
These preparations coincide with the approaching launch of Riyadh Boxing Week, which features a program of events and media meetings. The official appearance of the boxers begins on Wednesday, followed by a press conference on Thursday, official weigh-ins on Friday, leading up to the main fight night on Saturday, with great public anticipation to follow the main matchup and other bouts.
