Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan on developments in the Middle East, the Ukrainian crisis, and other international and regional issues, as well as ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Enhancing Strategic Synergy

Xinhua News Agency reported on Friday that the meeting, held on Thursday on the sidelines of the 7th Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), focused on enhancing synergy between the Belt and Road Initiative and the Middle Corridor, and expanding strategic and economic cooperation fields between Beijing and Ankara.

Wang emphasized the depth of traditional friendship between China and Turkey, noting that enhancing strategic cooperation between the two countries serves their common interests and contributes to supporting the recovery of the global economy.

Core and Climate Issues

Wang expressed his country's appreciation for Turkey's stance on China's security concerns and its efforts to combat terrorist activities threatening China's national security, stressing the importance of continuing mutual understanding and support on issues related to the core interests of both countries, which helps protect their common interests and enhance bilateral cooperation.

The Chinese Foreign Minister also affirmed his country's support for Turkey in hosting the 31st Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31), highlighting its efforts in addressing climate change.

Ankara's Commitments

For his part, Fidan affirmed Turkey's commitment to the One-China principle and its obligations towards Beijing, and not allowing the use of Turkish territory in activities that could undermine China's security.

Fidan pointed to the development of relations between the two countries and their cooperation in facing global challenges, emphasizing Ankara's desire to strengthen its relations with Beijing and intensify high-level exchanges in the coming period.

Fidan highlighted the promising potential for economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, expressing Turkey's welcome for Chinese investments and an increase in the number of Chinese tourists, and affirming his country's aspiration to achieve more balanced development in various fields of bilateral cooperation.

The two ministers had previously discussed, on March 25, the latest regional developments and efforts to end the ongoing war in the region since February 28, stressing the need to end the war as soon as possible.
