China announced that the value of production in the next-generation display technology industry reached 838.6 billion yuan, equivalent to approximately 124.9 billion US dollars, during 2025. China's market share in this field exceeded 53 percent, making it the world's largest display panel production base in terms of technological system completeness, according to Xinhua News Agency on Thursday, citing the 2026 Industry Development Report.
The report issued by the China Information Industry Development Center indicated that the area of Chinese display panel shipments exceeded 220 million square meters last year, accounting for 77 percent of the global total. Display technologies are a primary means of information presentation and an important window for human-machine interaction in the digital age, representing an emerging strategic industry of fundamental importance in driving economic and social development.
For his part, Huo Chunming, Deputy Executive Secretary-General of the Liquid Crystal Sub-Association, stated that the Chinese market maintained its growth during 2026 despite disruptions in the global consumer electronics market due to rising memory chip prices. He added that experts view these technologies as one of China's strongest strengths in the global electronic manufacturing sector.
Xiong Jijun, Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology, affirmed that China will support deepening the integration of display technologies with artificial intelligence and big data, expanding applications in smart vehicles, smart homes, and the metaverse. Last June, the first Chinese and second global production line for 8.6-generation AMOLED screens began mass production in Chengdu, accelerating the use of OLED technology in medium and large-screen devices.
China currently has four main regions for this industry cluster: the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Yangtze River Delta, the central and western regions, and the Pearl River Delta. The industry size is expected to exceed one trillion yuan during the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030).
