Wide and international participation
The ninth edition of the China International Import Expo will kick off in Shanghai on November 5, with companies from 162 countries, regions, and international organizations participating, including Syria and several Arab nations, as part of efforts to enhance trade exchange and expand access to the Chinese market.
Xinhua News Agency quoted Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Yan Dong on Friday, stating that preparations for the expo are largely complete. He noted that 4,142 foreign companies, including those from the UAE, Syria, Oman, and other Arab countries, will showcase their products and services during the event, which runs until November 10.
Record exhibition spaces
Yan clarified that the total exhibition area will exceed 440,000 square meters for the first time. US companies will top the list of participating countries by exhibition space for the eighth consecutive year, with their allocated area increasing by approximately 1,500 square meters compared to last year, followed by German, British, and French companies.
He added that the number of companies listed in the "Fortune Global 500" and industry sector leaders participating will exceed 300 for the first time, while more than 2,000 companies will participate in the expo for the first time.
New innovations and technologies
This year, the expo will present more than 200 products in their global premieres or first-time displays, including technological and medical innovations such as surgical robots for endoscopy and cochlear implants.
The expo, whose first edition launched in 2018, is the world's first national exhibition dedicated to imports, aiming to expand China's economic openness and provide new business opportunities for foreign companies.
Growth in Chinese imports
As an indicator of growing Chinese imports, data from the General Administration of Customs showed that China's import value reached 16.7 trillion yuan, equivalent to approximately 2.48 trillion dollars, during the first nine months of this year, representing a 22.3 percent year-on-year increase, marking the fastest growth rate since 2021.
