China reaffirms steadfast support for Palestinian people's rights
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirms support for an independent Palestinian state and calls for a just settlement during a meeting in Baku.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, during a meeting with Palestinian Foreign Minister Fares Abukarim Shahin in Baku, reaffirmed his country's steadfast position supporting the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights, foremost among them the establishment of their independent state. Wang stressed that reaching a just and permanent settlement to the Palestinian issue is a fundamental condition for achieving peace and stability in the Middle East region.

Meeting in Baku

This reaffirmation came during Wang's meeting with Shahin on Thursday evening in the Azerbaijani capital Baku, on the sidelines of the seventh summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia. The two sides discussed developments regarding the Palestinian issue and ways to enhance bilateral relations, with Wang expressing his country's readiness to continue developing the strategic partnership between the two countries based on historical friendship ties.

Rejection of double standards

For her part, Shahin emphasized the necessity of rejecting double standards in dealing with the Palestinian issue, expressing her country's appreciation for China's firm stance. She pointed to Beijing's continuous efforts to defend these rights in international forums, as well as its contributions in providing humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, stressing Palestine's aspiration to continue developing bilateral relations.

International support

Wang noted that the Palestinian issue represents one of the longest-standing hot issues and the greatest historical injustice in the world since World War II. He stressed the necessity of not marginalizing the issue or ignoring the humanitarian situation in Gaza, calling on peace-loving countries to support the two-state solution and work towards a comprehensive and just settlement as soon as possible.
