Chinese President Xi Jinping announced four principles for constructive participation in resolving hot issues in Africa, emphasizing the need to respect the sovereignty of states, halt hostilities, and address the root causes of conflicts, during his meeting today, Tuesday, with the Prime Minister of Togo, "Faure Essozimna Gnassingb茅," who is visiting China on an official visit.
African Leadership and Fair Partnership
Xinhua Agency quoted the Chinese President as saying that the first principle is commitment to African leadership of its affairs, noting that African peoples are the decision-makers on continental issues and should play a pivotal role in addressing them. He added that the second principle is based on upholding integrity and justice, respecting the objectives and principles of the UN Charter, and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the concerned states.
Ceasefire and Dialogue
He pointed out that the third principle focuses on enhancing the ceasefire and achieving peace, stressing that wars and unilateral sanctions do not provide radical solutions to conflicts, and that their resolution requires mutual respect, intensive dialogue, and seeking common ground while setting aside differences. The Chinese President noted that the fourth principle focuses on addressing the direct and root causes of conflicts simultaneously, by working to achieve immediate security and planning for long-term development.
Security Challenges on the Continent
Several regions in Africa face security challenges and armed conflicts that affect stability and development, amidst regional and international efforts to support political settlements, enhance dialogue, and respect state sovereignty, alongside addressing the economic and social factors that contribute to the continuation of conflicts.
