Chinese study links physical activity to positive behavior via psychological resources
A Chinese study links physical activity to positive student behavior through psychological resources and social connectedness.

A recent scientific study conducted by researchers from Shanghai University of Sport and Fujian College of Sports Vocational Education and Training in China showed that the relationship between physical activity and positive behavior among university students is linked to psychological and social resources, most notably hope, optimism, psychological resilience, and the sense of belonging and connection with others.

The scientific journal "Scientific Reports" reported on Sunday that researchers analyzed survey data covering 1,244 university students, aiming to study the relationship between engaging in physical activity, psychological resources, social connectedness, and positive behavior towards others, such as helping and cooperating.

It was pointed out that the results showed no direct statistically significant relationship between physical activity and positive behavior, but the relationship appeared indirectly through psychological resources and social connectedness, either through each individually or through a sequential path starting with psychological resources and ending with enhanced social connectedness.

The researchers added that these factors provide a framework for understanding how physical activity is linked to positive behavior among students, and the analysis results also highlighted the importance of psychological resources and social connectedness in explaining higher levels of positive behavior, including helping and cooperating with others.

They noted that the results are based on survey data and statistical analyses, and do not prove that physical activity directly leads to an increase in positive behavior, which necessitates further studies to verify the nature of these relationships.

These results highlight the importance of viewing physical activity as part of a broader system that includes mental health and social relationships, thereby helping universities provide an environment that encourages students to cooperate, help others, and enhance their sense of belonging.
