The Chinese company BYD, specializing in electric and hybrid vehicle manufacturing, announced the "Yangwang U8," which combines advanced driving technologies with an emergency floating system. This technology allows the car to rotate 360 degrees in place, stay afloat on the water surface, and move slowly in flood situations.
In this context, the company stated on its official website on Thursday that the car is equipped with four independent electric motors, each controlling one wheel. This distribution allows it to rotate around itself and maneuver in narrow spaces, in addition to improving its ability to handle rough roads.
For his part, the system dedicated to emergency floating explained that it relies on insulation technologies and water depth monitoring. This system allows the car to remain afloat for up to 30 minutes and move at low speed, which may help passengers reach a safe place when facing sudden flash floods and floods.
The company added that the system activates special procedures when water enters dangerous levels, including raising the suspension system, closing windows, and adjusting some vehicle systems to limit water leakage. Independent motors allow control of wheel movement during floating, while emphasizing that the feature is intended for emergency situations only and is not a substitute for rescue means.
