Civil Defense teams at the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management continue to carry out field response operations in Al-Hasakah province, in light of the heavy rains and floods that hit the Al-Khabur River and its tributaries.

The head of the field operations department at the ministry, Yousef Ezzou, said that the response included the cities of al-Hasakah, Tal Hamis, al-Yarubiya, al-Shaddadi and al-Arisha. The teams worked to construct and lift earthen berms with a length of more than 8 km, and opened and isolated water drainage channels in 15 locations, in addition to opening a water stream near the Ghuwayran bridge to relieve pressure on the river, and pumping water from dozens of locations within neighborhoods and roads, in addition to opening water ferries.

In addition, the works included the evacuation of about 120 families from the affected areas, with more than 1700 houses fully and partially damaged, in addition to more than 1450 families damaged, and hundreds of hectares of agricultural land as a result of floods and crop submergence, he said, stressing that the teams continue their field operations to reduce the damage and protect civilians in various affected areas.

The Director of the Syrian Civil Defense, Munir Mustafa, conducted a field tour of the affected areas in the city of Al-Hasakah, accompanied by the leaders of the response teams, to assess the needs and damages, and follow up on the work of the teams in dealing with the flood of the Khabur River and its tributaries, in order to ensure the safety of civilians and their property in light of the prevailing weather conditions and heavy rains.

The Syrian Civil Defense teams also inspected the homes of civilians affected by the floods in the area during the recent period,  where they began field response work, by raising earthen berms around the internal transport garage in Al-Hal market to prevent the spread of the water of the Khabur River to the garage yard to protect vital sites and neighboring civilian homes.

Teams also began their field work to respond and reduce flood damage at the Beirut Bridge in the Ghuwayran neighbourhood of Al-Hasakah city.
