Civil Defense teams in Hama respond to the aftermath of the rainstorm
Syrian Civil Defense teams in Hama carry out multiple field interventions to extinguish fires, clear collapses, and drain water.

Civil Defense teams in the Hama governorate responded to a number of reports related to the consequences of weather conditions and the rainstorm that affected several areas of the governorate.

Diverse field interventions

Operations commander at the Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate in the governorate, Tariq Ramadan, stated in an interview with a SANA correspondent on Thursday that Civil Defense teams carried out field interventions that included extinguishing a fire caused by a lightning strike, removing fallen rocks from roads, addressing rainwater accumulations, and responding to flash floods that caused a temporary disruption of the main road between Salamiyah and Raqqa.

Operations in Hawizeh and Masyaf

Ramadan noted that responses were distributed across several sites in the governorate. In the town of Hawizeh, a fire that broke out in a palm tree near a house, following a lightning strike, was extinguished without any human casualties or other damages. In Hayalin village in the Masyaf area, fallen rocks were cleared from the road, reopening it to traffic while securing the site.

Water drainage and area protection

Ramadan explained that Civil Defense machinery in Salamiyah city, in eastern rural Hama, specifically near the Awqaf roundabout, pumped and drained accumulated rainwater. This was done in parallel with the construction of earthen barriers and opening a channel to drain accumulated rainwater in the Hamra district in eastern rural Hama, aiming to prevent water from reaching it and protect it from flooding. Field teams also responded to flash floods that caused the disruption of the main road between Salamiyah and Raqqa and contained their field consequences.

National response statistics

Civil Defense teams in the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management carried out 165 field responses due to heavy rainfall and flash floods that affected several Syrian governorates, until 11:30 PM on Wednesday. These efforts resulted in rescuing 15 civilians and evacuating approximately 375 families from affected camps. Meanwhile, flash floods took seven bridges, ferries, and dirt roads out of service.
