Completion of Over 7,000 Procedures for International Trademarks in Syria
Syrian authorities complete over 7,000 international trademark procedures, boosting investor confidence and streamlining services.

The Directorate for the Protection of Commercial Property within the Ministry of Industry, Internal Trade, and Consumer Protection in Syria has completed 7,171 requests and procedures related to international trademarks from the beginning of the current year until early October. This achievement includes registering new trademarks, renewing others, and updating ownership data, reflecting the diversity of services provided to facilitate procedures for traders and investors.

For his part, Muhammad Anan, head of the International Trademarks and Treaties Department in the Directorate, clarified that the completed work was distributed among approximately 1,100 requests for registering international trademarks originating from outside Syria, and about 1,400 requests for renewing trademarks. He added that 4,671 other cases concerned the transfer of trademark ownership, or changing the owner's name or address.

Anan pointed out that the department allows Syrian traders and investors to submit applications to register their trademarks internationally from within Syria without the need to travel, which contributes to saving time and effort. The Directorate also receives requests for protecting foreign trademarks in Syria and urges investors to pay attention to protecting their trademarks before expanding into new markets.

The Directorate is currently preparing to launch an electronic system for trademark registration, with the program reaching an 80 percent completion rate and entering a trial phase in preparation for its launch. The system aims to organize work mechanisms and improve service quality, within the framework of the Madrid System for International Registration administered by the World Intellectual Property Organization.
