Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has anticipated the upcoming "Clasico" match against Barcelona on Sunday, noting that it is natural for the Spanish royal club to receive less praise compared to their Catalan counterparts, who currently lead La Liga undefeated.
Speaking after his team's 4-1 victory over German side Leipzig in the third round of the Champions League, Courtois said: "We know it will be a difficult match, but we feel confident. If we want to close the six-point gap, we are required to go there and achieve victory." He added: "We must acknowledge that they have been very strong, moreover, we will play at their home ground, but I have faith in our team."
Different Styles
The Belgian goalkeeper pointed out that the two teams employ different footballing styles, explaining that Barcelona relies heavily on attack, which is why they are talked about more; they are highly effective and score many goals. He clarified that the key to the match will be curbing their attack and scoring when opportunities arise.
Current Standings
Real Madrid, third with 21 points, will visit the "Camp Nou" stadium on Sunday in an attempt to close the gap with their Catalan rivals, who lead with a perfect score of 27 points. Barcelona suffered their first defeat of the season across all competitions last Tuesday, in the third round of the Champions League against French champions Paris Saint-Germain, who held the title in the past two seasons, with a score of 2-4.
