Cultural Evening in Damascus Evokes Andalusian Heritage
A cultural event in Damascus celebrated Andalusian heritage through poetry, music, and performances.

The Arab Cultural Center in Al-Mazza, Damascus, hosted on Sunday a cultural evening titled "Guests from Cordoba," combining poetry, recitation, chanting, and music, with the participation of a select group of young poets to revive Andalusian heritage and evoke its symbolism in Arab memory.

The evening featured literary and musical segments inspired by the beauty of Andalusia and Cordoba, alongside poems addressing Damascus's civilizational status, aiming to strengthen young people's connection to and preservation of Arab literary and musical heritage. The general supervisor and event coordinator, Duaa Seif al-Din, told the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) that the evening was based on two main axes: vernacular poetry and Andalusian poetry.

Seif al-Din noted that the title "Guests from Cordoba" carries connotations beyond geographical boundaries, evoking a prosperous stage in Arab history marked by developments in literature and arts. She added that the event brought together youthful talents under the age of 25, who possess diverse energies, allowing them the opportunity to collaborate, exchange experiences, and present their creations to the audience.

For his part, participant Nour al-Din al-Saghir highlighted the importance of music in enhancing cultural memory, noting that presenting Andalusian musical heritage through contemporary artistic styles helps convey this legacy to various segments of society and introduces an important aspect of Arab civilization. In his turn, participant Faycal Abu al-Nujum al-Mahamid explained that his musical participation aimed to present the aesthetics of Andalusian art, clarifying that Andalusia historically formed a center for singing and music.

The guest of honor, poet Muhammad al-Ahmad, emphasized the importance of supporting cultural centers' youth initiatives, which contribute to directing young people's energies and developing their talents. He pointed out the cultural and artistic richness of Damascus as a civilizational and historical link. Al-Ahmad recited a poem during the evening that addressed the values of peace in Damascus, evoking the historical and aesthetic bonds that connected Al-Fayhaa (Damascus) and Andalusia across the ages.

In the same context, the Spanish Embassy in Syria organized on the 13th of the current month a musical evening at the Damascus Opera House, taking the audience through 70 minutes into the corridors of Andalusia and Seville through musical and dance flamenco tableaux. The event began with a tableau from Andalusian heritage that embodied the Andalusian spirit, blending Spanish and Eastern folklore.
