Damascus Governorate continues rehabilitation works and asphalt paving of the city's southern entrance, which is one of the main traffic axes leading to the city, as part of a plan aimed at improving the road's condition and enhancing its efficiency. These works aim to enhance traffic flow and reduce congestion, particularly on the road connecting the city to the Daraa highway.
Jabra Abdoush, Deputy Director of the Supervision Directorate in Damascus Governorate, told SANA on Tuesday that the paving works carried out by the Maintenance Directorate are proceeding according to a specific plan, covering approximately 10 kilometers of the road. The total area for paving is about 140,000 square meters, comprising 5 kilometers for each of the outbound and inbound lanes, with each lane approximately 14 meters wide.
Abdoush noted that the paving works on the lane exiting Damascus towards the Daraa highway have reached the midpoint of implementation, with completion expected in the coming days. Following this, paving works will begin on the opposite lane designated for traffic coming from the Daraa highway towards Damascus, contributing to improved road quality and enhanced traffic safety.
He explained that the executed works included scraping off old asphalt layers, cleaning the road, and preparing it technically before laying the new asphalt surface. The road paving project is part of comprehensive rehabilitation efforts underway at Damascus's southern entrance, which include maintaining sidewalks, curbs, and the central median, as well as rehabilitating streetlight poles and their technical equipment.
He added that the rehabilitation project also includes maintaining pedestrian bridges and tunnels, and improving green spaces by laying new agricultural soil and planting trees, thereby strengthening the city's infrastructure and enhancing the experience for road users.
