Damascus Hal Market Exports 15,000 Tons of Vegetables and Fruits to the Gulf
Approximately 15,000 tons of Syrian agricultural products were exported via 600 refrigerated trucks to Gulf and Iraqi markets last September.

Export Volume

The volume of Syrian exports of fruits and vegetables from the Hal Market in the Al-Zablatani area of Damascus to Gulf markets reached approximately 15,000 tons during last September, transported via 600 refrigerated trucks.

Shipment Details

Mohammad Al-Aqad, a member of the committee for vegetable and fruit exporters at the Damascus Hal Market, told SANA on Sunday that approximately 600 refrigerated trucks loaded with various types of fruits and vegetables, including apples, grapes, pears, and potatoes, were exported to the markets of the UAE, Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Qatar during last September.

Al-Aqad noted that the load of each truck amounts to approximately 25 tons, emphasizing that all exported shipments are documented at border crossings based on official data.

Target Markets

The member of the vegetable and fruit exporters committee pointed out that Gulf and Iraqi markets constitute a primary destination for Syrian agricultural exports due to the marketing channels they provide for local products, stressing the importance of continuing the flow of exports and facilitating the transfer procedures of agricultural products to support producers and exporters and expand the presence of Syrian products in external markets.

Influencing Factors

Regarding the factors affecting export movements, Al-Aqad clarified that they include the volume of production and the quality of agricultural products, as well as the extent of external market demand, in addition to transportation costs and demand levels in importing markets.

With regard to the mechanism for determining agricultural product prices, Al-Aqad explained that prices are determined in both local and external markets according to supply and demand and product quality.

The Ministry of Agriculture issues an agricultural calendar that is modified monthly according to the needs of the local market, including the main products that are not allowed to be exported or imported, based on a study of planted areas and production estimates, and the local market's need for products.
