Damascus Heart Disease and Surgery Hospital Provides Free Specialized Services
Damascus Heart Hospital offers free cardiac services for two years under a Syrian-Turkish agreement exceeding 500 monthly procedures.

The Damascus Heart Disease and Surgery Hospital continues to provide specialized medical care to patients from various governorates, as part of a Syrian-Turkish memorandum of understanding that stipulates operating the hospital with a capacity exceeding 500 medical and surgical procedures per month, and providing its services free of charge for two years.

The hospital includes emergency, specialized cardiac outpatient clinics, and operating rooms, where it performs diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac catheterizations and surgical interventions, along with examination, diagnosis, and follow-up services, while working on developing clinics and medical equipment and expanding the scope of services provided.

400 Patients and More Than 25 Cardiac Catheterizations Daily

Deputy Director General of the hospital, Dr. Abbas Maahid, told SANA that the hospital is the result of a Syrian-Turkish protocol signed almost a year ago, and the specialized clinics receive about 400 patients, with more than 25 diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac catheterizations and more than five surgical operations performed daily.

Dr. Maahid pointed out that the hospital receives patients from all governorates around the clock in emergency cases with a rotating and specialized medical staff, noting that the hospital's clinics are equipped with modern devices, including pediatric clinics for treating congenital diseases via catheterization and specialized clinics for valve lesions.

He noted that a new clinic using four-dimensional echocardiography has been established, and an electronic program for registering patients in outpatient clinics has been introduced, where they are triaged according to their condition under the supervision of a specialist doctor.

Comprehensive Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services

For his part, cardiologist Dr. Iyad Shaibi told SANA that the hospital and outpatient clinics receive patients suffering from various heart conditions, who undergo medical evaluation and necessary tests and examinations, along with specialized consultations, to determine the diagnosis and choose the appropriate therapeutic intervention.

He indicated that the hospital receives complex and undiagnosed cases referred by doctors from other hospitals, in addition to patients requiring regular follow-up, including those suffering from hypertension, coronary insufficiency, and diabetes, noting the availability of a comprehensive laboratory that allows performing various types of tests necessary for diagnosing cases and monitoring their treatment.

Keeping Pace with Medical Developments

For his part, cardiologist and cardiac catheterization specialist Dr. Khaled Al-Mustafa said: "The hospital's mission is not limited to providing medical services only, but extends to the scientific aspect, through continuous scientific research aimed at keeping pace with the latest medical and scientific developments and exchanging expertise."

He added: "Specialists follow scientific lectures with resident doctors at a rate of three to four lectures per week, divided into two parts: a basic educational section and a section related to modern scientific studies and articles."

The Syrian and Turkish ministries of health signed an agreement last June to operate the Damascus Heart Surgery Hospital and equip it with the latest medical devices, in addition to supporting specialized personnel, which contributes to providing high-quality and comprehensive services in the field of heart surgery and cardiac care.
